The local scholarship committee raises funds to provide transfer scholarships to selected West Valley College women who are majoring in math, science, technology, engineering or related (STEM) fields, and plan to transfer to a four-year college or university. The scholarship awards vary from $1,000 to $1,500 and are paid when the students register at their chosen college or university. Communication is done by e-mail, with a meeting in person in early spring to select the recipients. Usually two are chosen, and are then invited to a spring luncheon where they will be introduced to members of the AAUW Branch. Donations in support of these young women are always welcome and appreciated. Checks may be written to: ISPF-LosGatos-Saratoga AAUW Local Scholarship Committee.
Meet in ad hoc on a quarterly basis. Communication handled by email.
Tech Trek is a week of hands-on activities in science, math, and related fields at Stanford University. The girls interact with women whom science, mathematics and computer expertise are part of their daily lives. Interested members are invited to join the committee.
