Authors Luncheon 2020
The authors luncheon benefits our Local Scholarships and Tech Trek. This year we had three authors speak with us. After the luncheon, the were available for one-on-one discussion and book signing. The authors are shown below with our members who presented each of them:
Judy Borlase was the chairperson for the 2020 Author’s luncheon.
This note from Judy contains some feedback from one of our Authors:
I always ask our authors if they have recommendations for fellow writers who might be willing to come and talk to us without an honorarium and whom we would enjoy listening to. This year I also asked about their bringing books to sell, as we found out they cannot keep any money they receive for their sales. It might be an imposition.
This is, in part, the response from Saul Lelchuk, which you might be gratified to read:
“First and foremost, thank you so much for the invitation—I had such a fun time at the event, and so many interesting conversations with AAUW members that I found myself wishing for more time there! It was a wonderful afternoon, and please pass that on to your members.
—but selling my own was fine with me, absent a bookseller. I do pay for shipping, but the publishers offer authors a discount for bulk purchase, so I wasn’t losing money or anything like that! Just personally, I’d say that I’d much rather bring my own books to an event and get to chat & autograph, as opposed to simply telling people a more impersonal ‘go buy on Amazon’ etc. So, I think your system works fine, absent a bookseller! Hope this is at least somewhat useful.
Thanks again for the invite, and I do hope to keep in touch. Again, it was a really enjoyable afternoon. And if any local book clubs etc. are looking for authors, I always try to make myself available if at all possible — I love getting to meet avid readers at these events.”
In fact, we always get positive feedback from our authors. The committee thanks you for your participation.

San Jose Womxns March 2020
That’s not a typo! The “x” is supposed to convey inclusion! The San Jose Womxns march was held on January 18, 2020. Cynthia Miller, Louise Quenon and Marilyn Fuller represented the Los Gatos-Saratoga branch..
